Women in Journey has been in successful adventurous operation since the last post--March, 2010. The busy lives of busy women has thus far precluded consistent, timely blogging, but I hope to change that. For the purposes of documenting our new experiences thus far, the briefest of recaps follows, noting the month we got together, the new thing we did, and any noteworthy occurrences.
Inaugural Women in Journey meeting and event: March 2010--Ginna's event
We met at Brighty's house for a few glasses of wine and snacks, introduced ourselves to one another, talked about our excitement over our new group (and undoubtedly experienced a bit of unspoken trepidation about the whole thing--I will leave it to the others to hopefully comment on this) and were off to a place called Herbs and Arts. We each "made" our own spiritual candles, designed to help us focus on and thus achieve specific things in each of our lives. A really unique and interesting experience and one that helped connect all of us.
April 2010--Erin's event
Canvas and Cocktails, a new art studio/"bar" in Cherry Creek. We took a painting class together and learned how to make "swirls." Each of us now has the same painting in our homes.
May 2010--Brighty's event
Denver Roller Derby. Feather boas, bandannas, and fishnets--we dressed up, had a few drinks, and took in the fascinating world of roller derby. Who knew? May also marks Holly's exciting news--a new job and a move across country. And then there were six. Although the word is starting to get out and many of our friends ask to join WIJ, we decide to remain true to the original foundations and not to introduce another member. Holly is irreplaceable anyway.
June/July 2010--Sarah's event
We attend a workshop with a Life Coach. Although each of us is a bit unnerved by the amount of religion coming at us during the experience, we learn a lot as we take stock of our lives, think about our futures, and toggle between humility and grand ambition in mapping our life plans.
August 2010--Mel's event
Watch the sun come up in City Park and grab breakfast together. Mel met us at the park's bandstand pushing a stroller full of coffee, pastries, and blankets. We were reminded that we are constantly a part of new experiences--it is just a matter of seeing them and enjoying the moment.
September 2010--Ann's event
Oh boy. We met for dinner at Patsy's--an "authentic" Italian place in north Denver and then crossed the street to the Bug Theater for "Freak Train," an open-mic stand up comedy night/variety show. We deemed witnessing the show a new enough experience and decided we didn't have to perform an act (although we have recently discussed an open mic experience may be in our futures--yikes!). We were happy, if not a slightly startled witnesses to a goth wedding, and enjoyed an awkward performance of a zombie chorus line before we called it a night.
October 2010--Erin's event
Once in awhile, busy, creative women in journey need to pause for a moment amidst all the journeying and reflect on what has come to pass and what the next few months will bring. We took the time to do this at Erin's house last month. A lovely dinner, pumpkin carving, and great conversation. WIJ has been operational for 6 months and the seven women who got together in March are now close friends.
November 2010--Ginna's event
In a few weeks we'll gather at my house and meet Deb and her past life spirit expert/mentor/guide "Nick."
